Are You Haunted

We are all given free will – even when we die. The light leading the way to the other side appears for us all, but we can choose to go through or stay and become a ghost. There are many theories as to how long the light lingers around us after death. Some mediums believe it’s three days after the funeral, others say it’s three days after the final memorial. The exact length of time is not known. What we do know is that eventually the white light leaves and the person is now a ghost without a body, voice box or means of communication with those of us living in this dimension.

People refuse to go through the light for many reasons. Sometimes the grieving ones won’t let their loved ones pass on. Every time they cry out, “Don’t leave me!” the spirit is pulled back to this plane. Sometimes the newly deceased is afraid of being judged for their actions in the after life. Often, people stay because they don’t believe in an afterlife. And sometimes, people get stuck because their curiosity gets the best of them. Once they discover they can go anywhere with a thought and act as a fly on the wall, they don’t want to leave. The gossip is too tempting.

Once they are stuck here, they realize that they can’t get their energy from drinking, eating or sleeping like they used to. Soon they discover that they can only get their energy from us. Because they’re now earthbound, they are vibrating at a low level and therefore get their energy from lower level vibrations such as stress, anger, sadness and frustration. It doesn’t take them long to discover that they can manipulate metal and electricity fairly easily. So if they misplace your keys five minutes before you have to leave for work, and you get completely stressed out and frustrated searching for them because you “know” you put them on the kitchen counter, the ghost in your house can live off that energy for several days. If they turn your TV off while you’re watching it, that surge of fear you emit can last them for a good while. Ghosts need to therefore attach their energy to someone or someplace. This is how they “survive.” If they attach to a place and the homeowners move out, the ghost will go dormant for a while until a new family moves in. Without our energy to steal, they go into a sleep like state. This is why many ghosts choose to attach to people instead. Like attracts like, so they have to find someone who has similar energy. Most people who choose to stay a ghost aren’t the best kind of people. They tend to be addicted to earthly things – money, food, pleasure, drugs, alcohol. So if for example on earth they were focused on looking good, they might attach to someone who is obsessed with body image. An alcoholic ghost will seek out a current alcoholic. They are drawn to people of similar energies and will attach to them. They usually attach at the back of the solar plexus chakra – in the middle of our back. But this isn’t an absolute. If a person was a sex addict in life, they will attach to a similar energy at the sacral chakra. If a person was jealous and possessive and attaches to a similar energy, it will usually link in at the heart chakra.

1) Holes in your aura. If you’ve experienced extreme drinking, eating or drugging, you’ve put holes in your aura and are therefore at risk of an attachment. If you’ve had surgery, there will be a tear in your aura for about six months afterward that will need to sealed with rest. In the meantime, you would be vulnerable to attachment. But remember, if you keep your energy light, positive and healthy, you won’t have anything to give a ghost and they will eventually leave you. 2) Headaches in adults, tummy aches and sore throats in children. Ghosts in the home will effect us physically. Adults tend to experience more tension headaches than is the norm while children tend to have upset stomachs and sore throats. Adults can also experience an increase in colds and upper respiratory issues. Keep in mind, however, that this alone is NOT a sign of a ghost. It’s this issue in combination will all of these others.

1) Electrical problems. Some people will experience issues with their TV, phone, computer or children’s toys. People report TVs turning on when no one is in the room. Children’s electronic toys going off in the middle of the night. Alarms going off during the day and computers freezing up are also often reported. Lights turning on and off are common in a haunting. 2) Misplaced objects. If you keep losing things you need like you wedding ring, car keys or wallet only to have them miraculously reappear later, you may have a ghost 3) Cold Spots. If you have areas of cold spots in your home, you might have a ghost. This can be very common in an older home, however. Taken alone, none of these signs point to a ghost. Check your insulation. Always rule out physical explanations first. 4) Unexplained shadows. Seeing shadows dart out of your perepherial vision, often termed “Shadow People,” is another sign of a haunting. 5) Unusual animal behavior. If your dog or cat suddenly acts skittish in one part of your home, stares at one spot in particular or barks at “nothing,” while staring at a corner of the room, the animal might be seeing a ghost. 6) Unexplained noises. People with a ghost attached to them or their home often report hearing whispering sounds that they can’t quite make out. Others unexplained noises include footsteps, the sounds of doors opening , knocks, scratching and the sound of something being dropped are other common sounds.

1) Feelings of being watched. In your home you might feel as though an unseen presence is always watching you. Many people report that this occurs most often at night and when they’re alone. This is a common feeling and is usually not paranormal, but if it happens consistently and in the same part of the house, it might be something. 2) Increased arguments in the home. Ghosts can feed for days off of a good argument, so they will often send thoughts into people’s head to create fighting and tension. People living in a haunted home often report that their marriage was going great and then suddenly senseless fighting erupted and they couldn’t stop it. 3) Feeling tired in your home and energized when you leave. Because ghosts take our energy, we will feel drained, tired and a bit cranky when we’re home but once we leave the home, we’ll feel more energized and happier. If a ghost has attached itself to you, this will be a much harder feeling to shake. It’s important to see your doctor to make sure these feelings don’t have a common, explainable source that can be helped with medicine or therapy.

You can seek out a reputable paranormal team for help. Check their references and make sure they don’t charge. You can also get your home blessed by a priest or minister. Keep the energy in your home light and clear. Make sure your home is always clean and cleared of clutter. Open the windows on a bright sunny day. Open your blinds always to let the light in. Sage your house weekly. Keep crystals in your home to lift the energy. Place classical music or the Gregorian chants in your home to break up negativity. Have a running source of water in your home to clear the energy such as an aquarium or water fountain. Avoid fake, silk plants and opt for live plants which will help clean the energy in your home. The best way to keep your home and energy clean and clear of ghosts is to live a life of balance, positivity and gratitude. If you think you have a ghost, read up on this topic. Six Fool Proof Ways To Strengthen Your Aura

The aura is our energy field. It’s comprised of seven layers of energy. It’s egg shaped and extends about an arm’s length all around your body. The stronger your aura, the healthier you are. The aura can be weakened by stress, poor diet, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, anger, worry, fear, drugs, alcohol and tobacco. There are, however, some very concrete and relatively simple things you can do to strengthen your aura and revitalize your mental, emotional and physical health.

Studies show that negativity, anger, fear and worry lower our immune system. These emotions also weaken our aura making us susceptible to psychic attack and taking on other people’s “stuff.” If you keep your thoughts positive by reading uplifting material, hanging around happy people, and taking vacations from negative news, you will begin to restore your aura. Try to avoid negative people. Don’t get caught up in their arguments, don’t try to change them or convince them of anything and don’t take their negativity personally. Keep your thoughts positive and your surroundings as uplifting as possible and soon you’ll see remarkable improvements in your emotional wellbeing. Try using affirmations too such as “All is well in my world” or “All my needs are easily met.”

Even if you just walk around your neighborhood for ten minutes, you will be doing your aura so much good. Getting outside and getting some exercise strengthens your immune system, improves your blood flow and helps you reduce excess anxieties. Exercising daily also reduces stress and increases your self-esteem.

Drinking plenty of water – aim for 64 ounces a day – helps to cleanse your body and your aura of negativity. It helps flush out old negativity that we store in our cellular memory. Sometimes when people are sending us negative thoughts, these emotions can stick to our aura making us feel worn down and tired. Drinking water helps flush this out and keeps our aura healthy, strong and clear.

Wearing a crystal every day for psychic protection is smart and it works. Crystals help protect us from negativity, psychic attack, worry and fear. They also help release blockages and break up old patterns that are no longer working for us. Clear quartz will energize your aura, smoky quartz will absorb sadness, amethyst will increase one’s spirituality, watermelon tourmaline increases your self-love, black tourmaline or hematite will ground your energy and protect your aura.

Soaking for at least 20 minutes a week in a salt bath helps to rid the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies of any negativity absorbed throughout the week. Simply combine a cup of Epsom Salts, a cup of Sea Salt and a ½ cup of Baking Soda. Stir together and pour into running water. Soak for at least 20 minutes and as you pull the drain, imagine all your stress from the week disappearing down the drain. You’ll feel renewed, restored and revitalized.

First Impressions By the Numbers

Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell everything about a person just by their first name? Wouldn’t you love to know the best way to approach your boss about a raise or handle that cantankerous co-worker? Well, with the power of numerology, you can. All you have to know is the person’s first name and – more specifically – the first vowel of their name. This will give you insight into what motivates that person. Read on to learn how knowing the meaning of just 6 letters can you give you amazing insight into everyone you meet.

A’s vibrate to the number 1. Examples include Mary, Jane, Sandra and Garry. A’s are natural born leaders. They like to be number 1. They are ambitious, hardworking and very self-critical. They need to be in charge, and they need to be told they’re doing a good job – often. Positive reinforcement is a great way to handle A energy. If you are working on a project with an A energy, let them take the lead. It will be easier, trust me. It’s not worth it to compete with an A. If you compliment an A, they will do amazing work. If you criticize an A, they will rebel strongly. A’s are trustworthy, hardworking and success oriented. They work well as entrepreneurs too. If you have an A working for you, make sure to compliment them, give them specific tasks to be in charge of, and feel comfortable letting them work on their own. They will do a great job. If you want to know more about A energy, think about the name of our country. America is an A energy. We value independence, we love freedom and we are the leader of the free world.

If you meet someone who’s first vowel in their name is E (such as Dean, Jennifer and Sean), as them if they’ve traveled lately. Es love to escape, travel and have new adventures. Es crave freedom and independence. They don’t like being told what to do and will resist conforming. The best way to approach these people is to let them march to their own drummer. They will work best when given the opportunity to work on their own. They love change, travel and shaking things up. E’s love beauty and magic and creativity. They love people and enjoy learning their life stories. They are like little detectives and will insist on getting to the heart of any mystery – no matter how small. If you want to know about something going on in an office, ask an E. They will be sure to know. They love gossip and can enjoy all the drama associated with it. Because E’s are so bright and positive, they tend to attract negative people to them. E’s need to make sure they only allow positive people into their inner circle.

I energy loves to help people. They are the humanitarians of the group. Examples of I energy include Bill, Mike, Rita, and Cindy. I’s often have issues from their childhood that they’re still healing from. They will often feel a sense of responsibility for one parent in particular. Many I’s were abused as children, adopted or lost a parent early on. I’s are great leaders. If you have an I energy as a boss, you’re in good hands. They work well with others. I’s are fair, even tempered and sociable. They enjoy helping others and will do best in service-oriented or healing professions.

When you meet an O, ask them if they have children. O’s love to take care of others and are very family oriented. If they don’t have children, then they probably have pets that are like children to them. Os work better on their own or as the boss. They don’t like being told what to do. Examples of Os include John, Rose, Tonya and Bob. Os enjoy being in charge and taking care of things. People working with an O can tend to assume the O will handle everything, leaving the O feeling as though they’re in a thankless position. Co-workers will often be heard saying, “Ask O. She can handle that.” Because O’s love to take care of others, they need to remember to take care of themselves or they can feel burnt out and tired. O’s work really well as business owners, entrepreneurs and supervisors.

If you work with a U, you probably find yourself laughing a lot. Examples of U’s are Judy, Lucy, Justin and Kurt. U’s have a great sense of humor and love to make people feel happy. U’s are very creative, fun and animated. They tell great stories and will often exaggerate the truth just to make the story better. U’s are the performers of the world. They have a lot of creative energy and need to remember that they release stress through creative outlets. They are very spontaneous and think quickly on their feet. U’s can have extreme energy: when they’re happy, they feel amazing, but when they’re sad, they can get very down. U’s give great advice and make wonderful counselors.

In numerology, when a Y is between two consonants, it’s considered a vowel. Examples of Y’s include Gwyneth, Lynn, Tyrone, and Myra. Y’s are the seekers of the group. They like to work alone and need lots of solitude to recharge their batteries. Y’s have strong opinions about issues and won’t easily change their mind. Y’s don’t like to reveal too much about themselves. They tend to be secretive and hold grudges for long periods of time. Y’s love nature, especially the ocean. They are very intelligent and can easily hold their own in arguments. Y’s are very intuitive and are often spiritual. If Y’s don’t have faith in a higher power, they will feel lost and disconnected. So now you have a quick and easy way to know how to handle the people you encounter. If the first vowel in their name is an A, you know they need to be first. They are very competitive and are self-critical. E’s need freedom, adventure, change and the chance to work on their own. I’s make great bosses and are happiest when their job is helping others. O’s are the parents. They love to care take and nurture everyone else. They make good bosses, entrepreneurs, and business owners. U’s are funny, fun-loving and creative. Just stay clear of them when they’re in a bad mood. Y’s are quiet, intelligent and prefer to work alone. They like to keep their private life private but inside they tend to be deep thinkers and spiritual seekers.

4 Things You Can Do Today to Help Your Intuitive Child Flourish

If your child is intuitive, you probably already know it. Intuitive children often have night terrors. They complain of seeing scary things in their room at night such as shadow people, the “smelly man” or “hat man.” They will feel instinctively comfortable with some people and instantly shy or cautious around others. Intuitive children tend to be creative, empathic, and gentle. They are connected to nature and animals. Your child might talk about seeing lights or colors around people. They might have dreams that later come true or see deceased family members. For many parents, this is all very scary. However, there are some concrete steps you can take right now to help your intuitive child embrace these gifts and use them when they’re ready to help make the world a better place. Validate Your Child. It’s very important to believe your child when he says something scary is in the room or she tells you that the man next door gives her the creeps. Kids need to know that you’re a safe place to turn to when they experience these intuitive insights. Don’t tell them it’s their imagination or they were just dreaming. Listen to them and validate their concerns. “Wow, that was a scary dream. Could you draw it for me and we can talk about it?” Or try saying, “I used to see scary things in my room when I was a child too. Would you like to try sleeping with a night light?” Encourage your child to keep a dream journal to write or draw in. Tell them that this is all a normal part of growing up. The one thing kids are afraid of is feeling or being different. So make sure they know that their feelings, visions and dreams are perfectly normal. Empower Your Child. When we’re scared, we feel powerless. If your child is experiencing night terrors or seeing scary things in their room at night, help them to feel less afraid by giving them so control over the situation. You can buy or make a protective spray to clear the room of negativity. Simply add lavender, sage, frankincense, and myrrh essential oils to a bottle of water. Add a pinch of salt and have your child spray the room at night when they’re feeling afraid. Lavender is calming, sage is protective and frankincense and myrrh are ancient oils of protection and healing. You can give your child a protective statue that resonates with your belief system. Arch Angel Michael is very protective for children. You can give your child a nightlight or flashlight to use when they’re scared. Teach Your Child Grounding Techniques. Sensitive children are constantly picking up the emotions of others around them. This can leave them feeling a bit spacey. When they learn to ground their energy, they will have more control over their own feelings and emotions. Make sure your child gets to play outside at least 20 minutes a day. Encourage them to walk around the house barefooted. Ask them to help you plant a garden. Make sure they drink plenty of water. Put a plant or a fish bowl in their room. Plants and fish are wonderful at absorbing excess energy. A water fountain in the bedroom can be very soothing at night too. Some of the best ways for a child to ground and cleanse their energy are to jump and twirl. So have your child do jumping jacks, get out on the trampoline, twirl and dance. Karate is also a great extracurricular activity for intuitive children because it teaches them grounding and focusing techniques. Teach Your Child About Colors. The power of colors is immensely helpful to an intuitive person. Black absorbs negativity; pink encourages love and happiness. Yellow inspires confidence and a sunny disposition. Green is healing while blue is calming. White is the color of protection. You can do fun exercises with your child to help them learn to work with colors. On the way to school, have them imagine jumping into a white fluffy cloud. Tell them that this color will protect them throughout the day. If they have a test at school, have them imagine standing in the center of the sun. Have them breathe in the warm, golden yellow color and tell them that this will give them the confidence needed to excel. If a classmate is being a bit mean, have your child imagine wrapping that friend in pink cotton candy. This will calm their friend’s energy down and help them to be nicer. More and more intuitive souls are incarnating than ever before. As the parent of an intuitive, it can often feel scary. Many parents feel at their wit’s end when dealing with their intuitive child. But the strategies mentioned here can and will help. Intuitives are like psychic sponges. They pick up the emotions of others throughout their day. As we grow up, we learn to deal with this. But children are often confused and scared by this influx of emotions. Empower your child by teaching them these strategies. Encourage them to take a salt bath once a week to cleanse their auric field. Simply add a cup of Epsom salt to a ½ cup of baking soda and a ½ cup of salt. Pour into a running bath and have your child bathe in the salt water for at least 15 minutes. There are wonderful books on parenting your intuitive child too. Remember that your child is gifted with a beautiful talent and ability to feel on a deeper level than his or her peers. Teach them to accept and nurture this gift and you will help them to heal our world when they’re ready.

Are You a Night Worker?

What’s a night worker? A night worker is an intuitive who helps people during their dream state. Some people with natural psychic abilities have agreed to work as night workers meaning they astral travel at night to help others in a variety of ways. Some night workers will travel to sick people and help heal their energy. Other night workers will counsel people about a problem the dreamer is dealing with. Some intuitives will help recently departed souls cross over and still other night workers use the dream state to help animals who are lost or injured. When we sleep, most of us astral project. Our soul leaves our body and travels through the astral planes. We remain connected to our body by a silver “umbilical cord” of energy. Most people travel to the other side to rest or review their soul’s path. But some people – called Night Workers — spend this time helping others. Night workers have dreams that are very different from the average dreamer. A night worker’s dreams are vivid, colorful, and chronological. The dreams feel more like visits and have a clear beginning, middle and end. Often night workers wake up feeling more tired than when they went to sleep. Read on to discover if you could possibly be a night worker.

Many night workers report dreaming about helping souls cross over. When someone dies suddenly from an accident, heart attack or other unexpected cause, they often aren’t aware they are dead. They need help realizing this so they can go through the light. Because the newly deceased are still connected to earth, they can’t see spirit guides, angels and loved ones who have already gone through the light. So they need mediums here on earth to connect with them and tell them to go through the light. This is a job that many natural mediums do during the sleep state. Their soul will astral travel to a newly deceased soul and help them to see the light and cross over. Sue Ann, a practicing medium in South Carolina, remembers one night dreaming that she was standing on the highway next to a man who had recently died in a motorcycle accident. The man appeared very dazed. He was clearly in shock. Sue Ann got his attention by getting him to repeat his name and where he lived. She told him to look into the light. When he did, he started waving to his grandfather and happily walked through the tunnel to the other side. Sue Ann woke up and read in the newspaper that a man had indeed died that night in a motorcycle accident.

Many natural healers work to help others even when they’re sleeping. Doctors, nurses, Reiki practitioners and holistic healers have reported helping people in the dream state. They describe dreams where they are in a room with a person, usually someone they don’t know, and they are working energetically on their body to help them achieve a state of balance. A nurse named Monica often has dreams that she is healing someone with rainbow lights. Monica describes a place that is on the beach. Her clients are on a massage table lulled by the sound of the ocean and calmed by the rainbow lights she directs to their chakras. She usually will meet that person later in the week in real time in her office. Bob, a Reiki Master, has dreams that he is giving Reiki to someone in a healing temple. He describes a large white building with several columns and stairs leading up to the healing room. He describes hearing beautiful music playing while he does Reiki on the people in his dream. He reports being surrounded by a team of helpers including angels.

People who are natural counselors and therapists will often have dreams where they are listening to someone’s problems and helping them work out a solution. Rick, a psychotherapist, has dreams where he’s sitting in a classroom at an old-fashioned desk. He always sees a line of people waiting to talk to him as one by one people sit down in the desk opposite him. Sometimes he just listens to the person, but often he comes up with wonderful solutions and suggestions for them. Jean, a practicing Tarot reader, has dreams where she’s giving readings to people helping them to make important decisions in their life. In her dreams, she is always seated underneath a large tree with her cards spread out before her. She counsels people on everything from relationships to health and career questions. A teacher named Julie often dreams of helping students whom she doesn’t know in real life. But one time she dreamt that she helped a young man apply for a scholarship so he could go to the college where she taught history. When the semester started a month later, she met the young man who’d appeared in her dream. He later told her that he dreamt about getting a scholarship and that’s what compelled him to apply for the help, which he did receive.

People who are naturally connected to animals often report having dreams where they help animals find their home, get adopted or cross over to the other side. Stephanie, a Veterinarian’s assistant, has had several night worker dreams where she’s helped animals. When her client’s cat went missing, she dreamt that she saw the cat miles away in another person’s house. In the dream she showed the cat how to walk home. The next day, the cat returned home. Stephanie often has dreams where she’s helping a pet to let go of their earthly existence and move on to the other side. When Barbara’s dog passed away after a long illness, she still heard his paws on the hardwood floors and one night felt his cold, wet nose brush against her leg when she was walking to the kitchen. She feared that he had not crossed over out of loyalty to her. One night she had a dream where she was walking her dog and told him it was okay to move on, that he needed to be in heaven with the other dogs. She watched as he ran off into the light. When she woke up, Barbara knew her dog had finally crossed over. You might be a night worker too. Do you often wake up exhausted as if you’ve worked all night? Do you have dreams that feel very real? Have you dreamt of helping someone? Have you dreamt of a stranger and later met them in real life? If you think you’re a night worker, start to record your dreams. The more you write your dreams down, the more clearly you’ll remember them. Being a Night Worker can be illuminating and gratifying, but it can also be exhausting when you truly need a good night’s sleep. So if you’ve had a really long day, tell your guides and angels before you go to sleep that you need a night off!

Self-Care Tips Based On Your Zodiac Sign

We all know we should take better care of ourselves, but this can be difficult when we feel lost in the midst of work, taking care of family, paying bills and catching up on never-ending to-do lists.  There are constant reminders in our news feed to spend more time with our friends, get out and exercise or take a yoga class.  But what if you’re a Cancer who enjoys staying home?  Or a Pisces who relaxes best by being near the ocean? Yes, we should all make time to practice self-care, but the ways we prefer to unwind can differ drastically depending on our sun sign.

ARIES: Fun-loving Fire sign Aries you are energetic, upbeat and enjoy being on the go.  You release stress best through exercise.  You might even want to try hot yoga to match your fiery nature.  Just make sure to drink plenty of water to calm down your wonderful fiery nature.  Competitive by nature, setting goals where you can compete against yourself with help you feel relaxed and accomplished. Participating in group sports is also excellent for the social loving Aries. You can be stubborn and fixed in your opinions.

Ruled by the Ram, you often rush in to save the day.  As a perpetual “fixer” for others, it’s important for you to try and slow down. This won’t feel easy at first, but give it a try.  Consider writing a gratitude list each night to remind you of all the wonderful people and things in your life.  Aries, you love to innovate, pave your own way and embrace your independence.  Any activity you do that supports your unique vision is sure to help you relax and recharge.

TAURUS: You’re ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, so consider relaxing with a facial or massage. Declare tonight a beauty night, try one of those new gold masks or paint your toes red. As a fixed earth sign, you’d also enjoy any grounding activity such as gardening, cooking or working with aromatherapy oils. Stretching and trying yoga or Pilates will help your mind, body and soul stretch to new heights. You tend to fixate on problems and overthink worries which means vegging out on the couch for evening and escaping through a movie or good book will help you unplug and recharge. A highly sensual sign, you also flourish when you’re being pampered.  Treat yourself to a massage or pedicure.  With Venus ruling your sign, you love to be surrounded by beauty.  Plan a shopping day or visit a museum.

With the Bull as your sign, you can “bullish” and stubborn, but it’s your fierce loyalty family and friends love about you.  Try applying this same loyal love to yourself.  Put yourself first for once and you’ll feel like a new person.

GEMINI: With Mercury, the planet of communication, as your guide, you are smart, quick-witted and always thinking.  Participating in activities that help your over-active mind will relax you.  Place a game of Scrabble or check out Tetris and Words with Friends on your phone while waiting in line at the store.  Brain games help your busy mind refocus. Talking to friends and processing your worries is always a great idea.

The Twins mark your sign which means you can appear to have two sides – one is outgoing and fun while the other is quiet and introspective.  Therefore, it’s imperative you make time for solitude. Once a week, unplug from all social media and outings and simply enjoy the inspiring company of your own beautiful self. With the gift of gab, you’re also a natural wordsmith.  Journaling or writing stories will help you process stress. Spending time in a bookstore will always soothe your soul.

CANCER: You are the quintessential nurturer dear Cancer.  As a water sign, you do best when you can go along with the flow of life.  But as a natural empath, your instinct is to reach out and help others first.  Cancers are true homebodies and tend to tuck in and cover themselves up like crab tucking into its shell.  It’s important for you to remember to ask – and receive – help when you need it. Practice nurturing yourself.  Cook yourself a beautiful meal or order in.  Spend an evening reading or writing.  You have an excellent memory but can use this gift to hold onto perceived “failures.”  Learn to forgive yourself and love yourself as effortlessly as you love others.

Practice the subtle art of letting go.  Some Cancers tend to hold onto things too long.  Spend a weekend clearing the clutter.  Donate old clothes and items to your local charity. Study Feng Shui and make your home’s energy match the loving vibration that makes you the gentle, caring person you are.

LEO: Oh dear lion, king of the jungle, everyone looks to you to lead.  You are proud, loyal and fun.  As a fire sign, you shine brightly and release stress best by being around others. Plan an outing with friends when feeling blue.  Go to a comedy club, get tickets to a play or concert, take a class and hone a hobby you’re passionate about.  Known for your lion’s mane, a trip to the salon will always make you feel better. Just as the lion rules its jungle, you feel best when you’re in charge. As a natural born leader, consider volunteering to nurture your soul.  Leos bask in the limelight and enjoy being in a crowd of friends and family.  Cook up a big meal over the weekend and invite your friends over.

Ruled by the Sun, you relax best on a warm, sunny beach.  As a fixed sign, you don’t like change or being told what to do.  Practice self-care by envisioning yourself shining brightly through any upcoming changes.

VIRGO: As an earth sign, you are practical, detail-oriented and smart.  You relax best when you’ve written – and checked off – a to-do list. You are a master organizer and can be relied upon to get things done.  You’re the go-to person for tasks no one wants to do.  Learn to set healthy boundaries.  You feel safest when you’re in control of the details.  When feeling bogged down, take a minute to write a pro-con list of a problem.  Before committing to a project or event, take a moment to consider your answer.  You don’t have to say yes to every request.

Any organizing you can do around the home will soothe your nerves.  Get your filing system in order, clean out your fridge, and organize your closets.  When your surroundings are in order, you feel calm.  You’re quick thinking mind can easily collapse into overthinking and worry. Try keeping busy with a puzzle, crossword or quick game of Scrabble.  Virgos make excellent pet owners; time spend with your furry friend will easily make you forget your stress.

LIBRA: With the scales of justice representing your sign, it’s all about balance for you. As an air sign, people see you as breezy, beautiful and social, but inside you’re intelligent, spiritual and compassionate.  As an air sign, you flourish when you meditate or practice any deep breathing techniques. Ruled by Venus, you have an appreciation for beautiful things.  Spend a day shopping for new items for your home or look for an outfit that makes you feel beautiful.  With your flair for elegance, a night at a fine-dining restaurant will restore your energy.

You have a love for justice which means a night at the movies watching the latest mystery or tucking in with a true crime story will help you forget your cares too. Sensuous Libras are romantics at heart.  Plan a cozy getaway with your partner or schedule a couples massage.  Libras love to have fresh flowers in their home.  Plan an outing to your local farmers market to pick out a bouquet or spend an afternoon gardening.

SCORPIO: As the only fixed water sign, you can be intense, passionate and focused.  Scorpios feel things deeply and hold onto grudges. Practicing flexibility through active listening will help you let go of stress.  Scorpios are naturally intuitive and tend to rely on their “hunches” and “gut feelings.” It’s important to honor your inner knowing.  You can be hard on yourself and take setbacks personally.  Learn to forgive yourself.

Ruled by Pluto, you enjoy your privacy and tend to keep most people at arm’s length.  Still waters run deep.  When you’re feeling stressed, try letting your loved ones in. You will open up to new ideas and ways of thinking which will help you process worries. As a water sign, time spent near the ocean, swimming at your local pool or fishing in a nearby lake makes you feel centered. Scorpio, you are passionate, secretive and mysterious. Tuck in with a good mystery movie or book.  Solitary pursuits like running or biking are recommended.

SAGITARIUS: You are adventurous, fun and spontaneous. Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, you bring love and light wherever you go.  Your optimism and rosy outlook will always help you see the best in everyone.  You can be a little too optimistic which may lead to jumping into a new venture without proper planning.  Reduce stress by breaking your goals down into steps.

Symbolized by the centaur, you have a love of the outdoors. Try active meditation such as hiking, biking or a leisurely nature walk. As an air sign, practice grounding your energy by walking barefoot, doing yoga or spending a weekend camping in the great outdoors. You’re very intelligent and have a love of learning.  Consider taking a fun class to reduce stress.  Sadges love to travel.  Time spent in a new environment helps clear your head and see any problems in a new light.  A weekend getaway will do wonders to soothe your adventurous soul.

CAPRICORN: Determined, hard-working and persistent, you have a work-ethic others envy.  But as you’re ruled by Saturn – the task master planet – you’re too hard on yourself.  Caps push themselves to work harder and achieve new goals.  This is a wonderful recipe for success, but it often leaves you feeling exhausted.  As an earth sign, time spent outside, especially near the mountains, makes you feel whole again. Active pursuits such as hiking, biking or playing a team sport are recommended. Challenging activities with specific goals such as martial arts keeps you feeling inspired. When feeling overwhelmed, consider planning a “shouldess” day.  Spend at least one day a month where you delete your schedule and do nothing.

Others will often look to you to get things done because they know you’ll do it right.  Make sure you can say no as easily as you say yes.  Don’t overcommit yourself.  Set healthy boundaries.

AQUARIUS: Social yet independent, technical and creative, elegant but unpretentious, you are a rare breed. People see you as easy-going and relaxed.  Like a duck who appears calm on the surface while he’s paddling for his life below the water, people rarely get to see inside you.  As an air sign, you prefer it that way.  You feel best when problems roll off you and enjoy appearing calm amidst the chaos.

As a fixed air sign, you prefer to handle things on your own attacking problems with focus and solitude.  Others see you as self-contained.  If you need help with a problem, learn to ask. Otherwise, no one will know anything’s wrong. You love to go, go, go which is why getting enough sleep is the best way you can practice self-care. Aquarians feel deeply about helping others. Volunteering for issues that are close to your heart will help you feel connected to something bigger than a problem you’re focused on.

PISCES: With the fish representing your sign, you feel everything and often go through your world like a big sponge soaking up everyone else’s emotions.  Highly spiritual, it’s important for you to follow a faith that’s nurturing and loving. Ruled by Neptune, the planet of dreams, you can often get lost in your own world rather than focusing on a problem. Talking with a therapist is a great strategy to learn how to handle problems and change.

As a water sign, any time spent swimming, walking the beach or fishing will benefit you. Taking a bubble bath at the end of a long day helps tremendously. If you don’t live near water, put a water fountain in your home or invest in an aquarium. Pisces rules the feet, so treat yourself to a pedicure, walk around barefoot when possible and invest in shoes that make you feel beautiful.

Learning about the attributes – and limitations – of your sun sign can help you understand and appreciate the many tools at your disposal to help you learn to take good care of yourself. Lucille Ball, a Leo with a mane of red hair we well remember her by, said, “Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done.” When you practice self-care, you are practicing self-love and that’s the best way we can take care of ourselves.

Creating Your Psychic Protection Shield

We all need to shield ourselves before we go out the door. Just as we put on clothes to protect our body and carry an umbrella in the rain, we must put on our psychic shield to protect our energy. Creating your psychic protection shield should be done every day. In the morning, make time to create your shield. White light works best, but there are a variety of visualizations you can use to enhance your psychic shield. Try some of these this week and see how much stronger you feel.

A favorite psychic shield is imagining a bubble of white light around you. Imagine this bubble of light extending about six inches above your head, around your body and descending about six inches below your feet. To reinforce this imagine, picture someone running at you and bouncing off the bubble. You can also draw the bubble with your hand and walk through it. If you’re attuned to Reiki II, draw the empowerment symbol as tall as you are and walk through it. A Bubble Shield is a wonderful way to keep negativity bouncing off you and returning to the sender.

If you’re going to be in large crowds or traveling, imagine a mirrored disco ball and see yourself walking into it. The mirrors will deflect any negative energy back to its sender. Mirrors have long been a symbol of protection.  Imagine yourself standing in a mirrored ball and visualize any negativity heading your way being deflected back to the sender.  This shield is best used when you’re going to be in a crowded concert arena, airport, shopping mall or any area where you’ll be bombarded by energy from a crowded group.

If your negativity tends to stem from your own inner worry and anxiety, try the Purple Flame Technique. First, ground yourself by imagining tree roots coming out the base of your feet and traveling into the ground. Take several deep breaths and focus on your solar plexus chakra located above your navel. Picture a yellow flame glowing here. See it growing and expanding until it fills up your entire body with its warm, glowing light. Visualize the yellow light turning bluish purple and then blending into a beautiful purple flame. This spiritual fire will burn away any and all negativity within your energy.

Try the Tornado Shield when you’re going to be around negative people and energy vampires. Before you walk into a contentious situation, imagine a swirling white light starting around your feet. Visualize it churning around your body in a clockwise direction 12 times until the swirling energy reaches above your head. Continue swirling this tornado around your aura.  Any chaotic negativity sent your way will be swept up in your very own tornado to be broken up and dissolved. See your Tornado Shield pushing out until you’re protected for at least three feet in all directions around you.

If you need to keep a low profile at a family reunion, in the classroom or a business meeting, here’s how to do it. Imagine putting on a clear, see through cloak. Pull the hood over your head and zip up the front of the cloak. Imagine people walking right passed you and not see you.  Don’t use this shield if you want to be noticed at work or out and about.  The Cloak of Invisibility should only be used when you want to go about your day under the radar.

If you’re facing a situation where you need to be extra strong, imagine yourself putting on a suit of armor. Pull on the metal legs, the steel plate, the arm sleeves, the helmet and put the face shield down. Now pick up your shield. You can imagine any important symbols on it that resonate for you. You can even create a coat of shields to further strengthen the energy of your shield. Wearing this type of psychic protection reminds you that you’re in charge of your energy. This is a great technique to use when you need to feel empowered, bold and strong.

As you move throughout your day exploring these different shielding techniques, you’ll soon realize that these shields are invaluable for keeping your energy protected and safe.  You can also imagine and project these shields onto others around you. If your child is worried about the first day of school, imagine a bubble shield around them.  If your friend is going through a tough time, project the Violet Flame shield around them to help them transmute their worries.  As you become aware of your energy, and your ability to control it, you will start to feel stronger, healthier and happier.

Manifesting Miracle

We are co-creators with the Universe.  The moment you accept that statement as fact, you will start to feel more empowered to manifest changes and create opportunities in your life.  So often, we feel powerless to the circumstances life hands us when in reality we can help navigate the course of our life.  If you want to manifest miracles in your life, you must set aside time and commit to a period of weeks devoted to manifesting. Studies show that it takes 21 to create a habit in our life.  Make manifesting a habit.  Commit to 21 days of manifesting.  Create a goal book or vision board to turn your dreams and goals into a visual reality.

A goal book or vision board works because it combines the two most powerful tools at our disposal – the ability to create with words and images.  Think of the bible.  How did God create this world?  With His words.  When we have a thought and turn it into an action, we create our reality.  A goal book is nothing more than an organized file, a manual, of how you want your life to look.  Your goal book should consist of three to five goals you want to achieve in the next couple of years.  Think about areas of your life you want to change.  If you want a new job, look through magazines and cut out a picture of someone looking happy and successful at work.  If you want new love, cut out a picture of two people in love. If you want more money, cut out a picture that represents financial abundance to you.  Glue each picture to its own page and underneath the picture write an affirmation for your goal.  Keep it in the present tense.  Your subconscious mind does not understand linear time.  If you think about a tragic or sad event that happened to you in the past, your subconscious mind will react as though it’s happening now.  Cortisol will flood through you.  Science has proven this.  If you think about a happy memory, your energy will soar with joyful thoughts and emotions.  Therefore, it’s imperative that you write your goal affirmations in the present tense. “I am so happy at my new job that pays well, provides excellent benefits and fosters a harmonious, happy work environment.” Or “I am so happy in my new romantic relationship that is rooted in respect, romance, equality, passion, joy and unconditional love.” Keep all the words in your affirmation statement positive as well as present.  For example, don’t write, “I am so grateful that I am now debt free.”  You don’t want to affirm debt anywhere in your energy. Instead try, “I am so happy that each month I have more than enough to pay my bills with money left over for savings and fun.” On the last page of your goal book, write, “This is something better” because this shows the Universe you are open to co-creating and open to new ideas that you can’t even envision for yourself just yet.

All our power to create is rooted in our subconscious.  This area of our energy only creates in pictures.  We dream in pictures, not words.  When we think, we imagine pictures.  If someone tells you a story about dogs and cats, you don’t see the words “dogs” and “cats” when you remember the story.  You see a picture of a dog and a cat. When we create a goal book combining pictures and words, it sends a message directly to our subconscious that says, “Let’s create this.”  Once you’ve created your goal book, commit to a 21- day period of positivity.

Maintain a positive environment for 21 days.  Avoid negative news and media.  Take a break from negative people at work and in your social life.  Don’t watch sad, violent or scary movies. Marinate in an energy of positivity as you take time to place your order with the Universe and endeavor to take control of your life.

Be prepared for the Universe to test you.  Promise yourself that you will persevere when this happens.  When we set out to create change in our life, the Universe always stops and says, “Are you sure? Are you positive this is what you want?” And this is when the testing begins.  Let’s say you want a new job and you begin to manifest that.  At your current job, you might get a bonus or a raise.  You’ll pause and think, “Wait.  Does this mean I’m supposed to stay here?” This is the Universe’s way of testing you to see if you really want this change.  Conversely, if you’re getting the intuitive message to look for a new job and you ignore it, the Universe will conspire to make your job difficult.  You might get a new boss who’s angry and controlling. Remember, you are a co-creator with the Universe.  The more you act in harmony with the Universe, the more things in your life will go your way.

When you’re tested by the Universe, stand in your power and hold your ground.  If you’re trying to lose weight, for example, and you’ve joined a gym and started eating healthy foods, and then all of a sudden your triggers for overeating start, take a deep breath and remind yourself, “This is just the Universe testing me to see if I am really ready for this change.” Push through the triggers and stick to your goal.  Before you know it, the Universe will see that you are in fact serious about your goal and will help you create it.

Think of the Universal energy like a server at a restaurant.  If you walk into a restaurant and say, “I’m hungry. I’d like some food.”  The server will bring you whatever is on hand.  You might get a plate of seafood when you were actually craving a salad.  But, you’re not hungry anymore.  You got what you asked for. Still, you feel unsatisfied. This is why it’s important to be specific.  Instead of saying to the Universe, “I want to be happy,” take some time and think about what makes you happy.  What do you need in your life right now to feel happier?  Is it more love? More money? Health? Freedom?  The Universe is not judgmental nor necessarily benevolent. It’s an echo and will manifest your deepest and most repetitive thoughts. To continue with our server in the restaurant metaphor, if you walk into a restaurant and say, “I’d like a cheeseburger with fries,” the server isn’t going to say, “Didn’t your doctor just tell you to cut down on red meat?” No, you’ll receive the cheeseburger. Similarly, if you’re always thinking subconsciously, “I’m no good.  Nothing ever goes my way,” then that’s what the Universe will deliver to you – more proof that you don’t deserve the abundance and joy that is your divine right. This is why it’s crucial to pull these weeds of fear and self-doubt from your subconscious and replace them with seeds of love, forgiveness and gratitude.

Only tell positive, supportive people about your goals.  Do not tell everyone.  Think about your goal as a fragile seed planted on a windy day.  You need to nurture it and let it take root before you can see it bloom.  If you tell your co-worker that you’re manifesting a new job, the co-worker might tell you all the reasons why this is a bad idea.  As fear courses through your body listening to this well-meaning co-worker, your seed has just blown away with the winds of fear.

Once you’ve created your goal book, take some time each day to look at it.  Day dream and meditate on the pictures in your goal book. See the goals happening to you. As you are manifesting, be vigilant for signs and synchronicities and take action when they appear in your life. If you’re manifesting a new relationship, and a friend asks you to a dinner party, go.  Show the Universe you’re ready to get out there and meet people. If you’re manifesting a new job, and you get an email about an upcoming webinar on networking, sign up.  We can’t create a goal book and treat it like a wishing well.  We must take action to see our goals to reality.  A Chinese proverb says, “Thought is the ancestor of action.” See yourself in harmony with the world around you and honor your power within.  As you learn to become a co-create with the Universe, you will manifest miracles!

How To Day Dream Your Wishes Into Reality

Have you ever driven to work and arrived without a conscious memory of your commute?  Do you tend to let your mind wander while sitting in a meeting? If so, don’t chide yourself for being a day dreamer.  New science is proving how day dreaming keeps your mind sharp and actually helps you turn your goals and dreams into reality. The Georgia Institute of Technology recently published a study showing that people who day dream are smarter than their more focused peers.  Scientists have also shown that the brain processes a day dream the same way it does a memory.  This means that when you day dream, your subconscious is storing this as memory, a fact. Once you get an idea or a belief into your subconscious, you can bring your goals from the dream state into real time.

Our subconscious mind is a tricky thing though.  We have no control over what gets stored there.  It’s designed to protect us which means we tend to store things in our subconscious that are charged with strong emotions. The highs and lows of our life get stored here. Memories that are rooted in strong emotions such as fear or joy get stored in the unconscious. Metaphysics has taught us that we can change the inner programing of our subconscious through repetitive affirmations.  While this does work, it takes a lot of time.  The problem has always been getting your subconscious on board in a timely manner.  Many of us have tried to “retrain our brain” only to be stopped by old tapes rearing their ugly head in the form of limiting beliefs and self-sabotage.  How many times have you started the new year with great resolutions and then stopped a month or two later when you hit a road block or two?  Our subconscious mind loves to tell us what we can’t do by playing and replaying old tapes, old memories, of our past “failures.”  If we can replace these old memories with positive future memories in the form of day dreams, we can remove these subconscious blocks.

The subconscious is where we tend to store our limitating beliefs and negative messages we received as a child.  “You can’t make a living as an artist” or “You’re not smart enough for that degree” and all that nonsense.  The main ways we’ve learned to reach the subconscious have been through accessing the theta and alpha state.  This can be done through deep, serious and consistent meditation.  But now science is showing us that it can also be accessed through the simple act of day dreaming.

When the brain is allowed to freely day dream, it activates an area of the brain called the Default Mode Network or DMN.  We aren’t even aware consciously of this happening.  We can’t control when the DMN is activated but we can control the thoughts and day dreams we have to program our DMN with positive images and goals we’re working on.  Science writer Josie Glausiusz says, “Daydreams are an inner world where we can rehearse the future.”

The DMN is where we get our sense of self.  How else can we become a co-creator with the Universe if we don’t first understand ourselves as the source? Psychologist Susan Nolen-Hoeksema defined daydreaming as “imagining situations in the future that are positive in tone.”

Most people spend about 30% of their day lost in thought.  However, most of this mind musing is spent on pointless thoughts, worries and anxieties.  But when daydreaming is a focused action, it allows us a direct connection to our subconscious which is where true change and creation occur.

Science also has proven that day dreaming allows us to find solutions to problems and creative insights that otherwise wouldn’t be available to us. Neurologist Marcus Raichle says, “When we daydream, we are at the center of the Universe.”

Al Smith of explains, “Your subconscious mind is in continuous contact with the subconscious minds of everyone else. Your individual mind while in the daydream state is your personal control console for this collective subconscious.”

The collective subconscious does not speak in words.  It doesn’t recognize English, Swahili, or French. The subconscious speaks through EMOTION and PICUTRES.  The subconscious also cannot distinguish between reality and fantasy nor does it differentiate between past, present and future.  Everything is real and everything is now.  When you day dream, you are programming your subconscious to create the reality you’re envisioning in the day dream.  When you day dream with the emotions you’ll feel when these goals are coming true, then you’re really firing up the power of the subconscious.

What you imagine most frequently is what you create.  We are manifesting all the time.  The only problem is that many of us are so caught up with worries and fears that this is what we manifest rather than the positive life we’re striving for. You must learn to harness this power with positive images and emotions or your life will continue to be a continued roller coaster of positive and negative experiences.

We’ve all heard the expression “Thoughts are things.”  But science has proven this.  Thoughts can be measured electromagnetically.  The protein bases of DNA look like syntax in language which has led scientists to speculate that our words could truly influence our DNA.

Keep your daydream simple.  Your goal is to project an image into the Universe.  The more details you give it, the more weighted down the dream is on its flight to the collective unconscious.  Al Smith suggests you “make your visual order easy for the quantum field to fulfill. Make your day dream orders short and memorable so they’re easy to replicate.  And then repeat them as often as you can until they are manifested.”

There’s an old saying “Thoughts are the ancestor of action.” As we head into the new year, spend some time monitoring your thoughts.  Think about what you want to invite into your life.  Envision yourself manifesting your goals at work, with your finances, your health, relationships and your personal wishes.  Feed these thoughts with the positive emotions of joy, anticipation and excitement.  Day dream your way into a beautiful, abundant and happy new year!

What Does Your Name Say About Your Future?

Did you know that your name can reveal aspects about yourself, your talents, strengths and weaknesses and might even give you clues as to your future? Many believe that our names – even our last names – are revealing.  Bernie Madoff actually “made off” with everyone’s money.  Donald Trump “trumped” the elections.  The author of the book “The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven” later admitted it was all fake, total malarkey.  His name? Alex Malarkey.  How can you determine what your name reveals about you? It’s all in the vowels.  The first vowel in your name corresponds to a number and this number gives you insights into your personality and can even give you a heads up about opportunities coming down the road for you.

A’s vibrate to the number 1.  Examples include Mary, Alex, Sandra and Gary.  A’s are natural born leaders.  They like to be number 1.  They are ambitious, hardworking and very self-critical.  They need to be in charge, and they make excellent entrepreneurs, bosses and managers.

A’s are trustworthy, hardworking and success oriented. They thrive when left alone to work on their ideas.  A’s do better without a set schedule.

If you want to know more about A energy, think about the name of our country.  America is an A energy.  We value independence, we love freedom and we are the leader of the free world.

If your first vowel is an A, you are going into a year where you can set clear goals and achieve them.  You are in a time of action, intention and effective work. Ask for a raise, seek a promotion, look for a new job if you’re unhappy at your current one.  It’s also a good time to start a new exercise routine. A’s release excess stress through working out. The more you can focus on a set direction for your future, the more likely you are to receive it now.  Give yourself permission to dream big this year. Ask for what you want. Take action to go after it, and you just might get it.

If your first vowel is E (such as Dean, Jennifer and Sean), you love to escape, travel and have new adventures. E’s crave freedom and independence. They don’t like being told what to do and will resist conforming.  You thrive in work and relationships when you’re given freedom and the ability to share your unique ideas.  You love change, travel and shaking things up.

E’s love beauty and magic and creativity.  You enjoy people and learning their life stories. You’re a natural detective and will insist on getting to the heart of any mystery.  Friends and co-workers know to go to you for all the gossip because you will be sure to know. Because E’s are so bright and positive, they tend to attract negative people to them.  E’s need to make sure they only allow positive people into their inner circle.

In order to excel this year, consider planning a fun getaway.  If work is stagnant, this would be a great time to work on a side project, ask permission to work from home one day a week, or see work that allows your talents to flourish.  E’s work well as travel agents, entertainers, detectives, police officers and counselors. In love, create opportunities to shake things up. If you’re in a relationship, take your partner on a romantic getaway or plan a spontaneous surprise in the middle of the week.  If single, get out there and network.  This could be your year to meet love in a big, happy way!

I energy loves to help people.  You are the humanitarians of the group. Examples of I energy include Bill, Mike, Rita, and Cindy.  I’s often have issues from their childhood that they’re still healing from. You might feel a sense of responsibility for one parent in particular.

I’s are natural leaders who earn, rather than demand, respect. You work well with others because you’re fair, even tempered and sociable.  You enjoy helping others and will do best in service-oriented or healing professions.

You’re heading into a time where you might find yourself asking the big questions.  “Why am I here?” and “What’s my purpose?” I’s often make time to consider these deep issues.  In the coming year, give yourself permission to seriously evaluate your life.  Are you in the career you want to be in?  Is your love life all it’s cracked up to be?  Are you making a difference in your world? If the answer is no to any of these questions, this is the time to evaluate and change course in certain areas. The more honest you can be with yourself at this time, the more clearly you can steer your life in the right direction. It’s an exciting time for you when you’re going to see yourself finally making time for YOU and creating opportunities for your happiness.

O’s are the parents of everyone else.  You love to take care of others and are very family oriented.  If you don’t have children, then you probably have pets that are like children to you. O’s work better on their own or as the boss.  They don’t like being told what to do.  Examples of O’s include John, Rose, Tonya and Bob.

In life, people rely on you to get stuff because they know you can do it.  Because you’re a natural doer and caretaker, you have a hard time asking for help when needed.  Co-workers will often be heard saying, “Ask O.  She can handle that.”  Because O’s love to take care of others, you need to remember to take care of yourself or you can feel burnt out and tired.

You’re heading into a time when a dream that you’ve held dear will present itself to you again.  The more time you take now to nurture this dream, the more quickly and effortlessly it can come to fruition.  This is also a great period to spend focusing on yourself – something you’re probably not used to.  Call in to work and take a mental health day.  Get yourself a special present.  Schedule a massage or get a manicure.  The more you can focus on your happiness this year, the more the Universe will stop and notice you.  As you claim your right to happiness, the Universe will respond and usher in opportunities for success and joy.

If your first vowel is U, you’re a natural comedian and a great friend.  Examples of U’s are Judy, Lucy, Justin and Kurt. U’s have a wonderful sense of humor and love to make people feel happy.  You are very creative, fun and empathic. You’re a great story teller and thrive in environments where your performing and creative talents are allowed to shine. You are very spontaneous and think quickly on your feet.

U’s can have extreme energy: when you’re happy, you feel amazing, but when you’re sad, you can get very down. U’s give great advice and make wonderful counselors. You’re heading into a time where you’re going to be given opportunities to share your story.  The more you own your story, the more empowered you will feel to create your own joy.  As Brene Brown reminds us, “When we deny our story, it defines us.  When we own our story, we can write a brave new ending.” This is a year to focus on your creativity, your passions and creating the life you want to live.

In numerology, when a Y is between two consonants, it’s considered a vowel.  Examples of Y’s include Gwyneth, Lynn, Tyrone, and Myra.  You are the seekers of the world.  You like to work alone and need lots of solitude to recharge your batteries. You have strong opinions about issues and won’t easily change your mind. You cherish your privacy and don’t like to reveal too much.  You’re very intelligent and can easily hold your own in arguments.  You’re also very intuitive and spiritual.  If Y’s don’t have faith in a higher power, they will feel lost and disconnected.

Are You an Empath or a Co-Dependent?

Empaths are blessed with an ability to feel deeply and pick up on the emotions of others.  Because empaths tend to be kind, altruistic and soft-hearted, they can attract negative people, narcissists and energy vampires.  If an empath chooses to give their power over to this negative person, they can morph into a co-dependent and become a willing participant in very unhealthy relationships.  An empowered empath can feel everything without needing to fix it, but a co-dependent can spend a life time avoiding their own stuff by focusing on helping others. In this false generosity they are seen as helpful saviors when in reality they are avoidance addicts.

  • An empowered empath has strong boundaries while a co-dependent has no boundaries at all. They can’t say no and will change their minds frequently about the kind of behavior they will and will not allow.

  • An empowered empath will offer advice and help IF they are asked to; a co-dependent will rush in to fix or help a problem.

  • An empowered empath is motivated by a deep spiritual purpose. A co-dependent is motivated by fear and guilt.

  • An empowered empath does not seek the advice, opinion or approval of others.A co-dependent needs constant approval from everyone.

  • An empowered empath enjoys helping others while a co-dependent needs to help others in order to feel loved and accepted.

  • An empowered empath attracts happy, healthy relationships. A co-dependent stays stuck in relationships with narcissists.

  • An empowered empath is aware of their motivation for being in a relationship; a co-dependent lives in denial.

  • An empowered empath is independent and self-motivated. A co-dependent is often trapped, manipulated or guilted into doing things they don’t want to do.

  • An empowered empath is capable of facing hard truths about themselves.A co-dependent would rather focus on helping others than do the inner work on themselves.

  • An empowered empath loves themselves. A co-dependent seeks love outside of themselves and always needs love and approval from others.

  • Being an empath can be a double-edged sword. It is hard to feel everything so deeply.  But an empowered empath is strengthened by these emotions whereas the co-dependent is weakened and defined by others’ emotions. Boundaries are crucial for the empath. People treat us the way we allow them to treat us.  An empowered empath does not take responsibility for other people’s emotions. They aren’t fixers. They only allow emotionally healthy, kind people in their life.  Co-dependents see themselves as victims rather than participants, but as soon as they make this shift to see themselves as co-participants in a negative relationship, they can begin the journey to becoming an empowered empath.

The Power of Sage

We’ve all heard that sage can clear a house of ghosts, poltergeists and negative energy.  But how can a simple herb do so much? In Latin, “salvare” means to heal and salvia – the species name for sage – is a direct divination.  Sage heals.  Throughout history, sage has been used in ceremonies for medicinal purposes.  Sage is found in the Russian steppes and throughout Western North America.  It’s incredibly adaptable and can survive temperature extremes and periods of drought.  Sage has been used to cure night sweats, hot flashes, and headaches.  The Navajo, in addition to using Sage in ceremonies, used it to cure headaches and fever.  They made infusions of the leaves to cure intestinal worms in their sheep and goats.  They applied hot poultices on the leaves to relieve migraines.  The “49ers” made sage poultices to help heal gunshot wounds.

It is placed in medicine bags to protect sacred items.  Before entering a sweat lodge, sage is used to purify the body.  During the sacred Sun Dance, dancers wear sage wristlets and anklets for protection and purification.

Recent scientific studies have proven that sage acts like an air purifier, killing up to 94% of the bacteria in a room.  A scientific paper published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology wrote, “We have demonstrated that using medicinal smoke it is possible to completely eliminate diverse plant and human pathogenic bacteria of the air within confined space.”  The study showed that the pathogens were still undetectable a month later.  Burning sage releases negative ions which has been shown to uplift moods.

You can use sage in your own life to enhance your energy, cleanse your space and invite protection.

Every person, rock, plant, animal and home has an auric field which can attract and capture negativity.  If this energy is not cleansed, it can create illness and depression.  Our aura extends around our physical body and is constantly receiving information.  When we are around negative, angry people or in homes and stores that have witnessed arguing, yelling and sadness, our aura can absorb this energy like a sponge.  Just as we need to clean our body once a day, we also need to clean our energetic body.  Smudging yourself with sage allows you to do this quickly and efficiently.

You can find smudge sticks and loose sage on line or in metaphysical stores.  They are inexpensive and easy to use.  You want to look for “White Sage” sold loosely or in a bundle.  You don’t want to use kitchen sage which is used for cooking.

To begin smudging yourself, light the smudge stick and usher the smoke around your body.  Start at your head and brush down and away, constantly flicking and motioning the negative energy to the floor.  Called aura brushing, you can simply motion the smoke down around your head, arms, chest and legs.  Ask a friend to help you smudge your back – again being mindful to brush the smoke down to the ground where mother earth can absorb and heal the energy.  Alternately, you can place the sage in a burn proof bowl and allow the smoke to grow heavy and thick.  Stand over the bowl and perform the aura brushing technique described above.  Turn around in a clockwise direction to ensure the smoke encompasses all parts of your energy.

To smudge someone else, you will need to find where their aura begins.  Some people have large auras – they project and push their energy out while others have very small auras, preferring to remain hidden and keep their energy tucked in.  The average person’s aura extends about six inches from their physical body.  To determine the boundary of someone’s aura, rub your hands together to awaken and activate your hand chakras.  Position your hands about two feet away from their body, palms facing out.  When you touch their aura, you will feel either a temperature change or an invisible barrier pushing against your palms.  Sometimes you might feel a pressure or stickiness.  Other times, you’ll feel a heaviness.  Either way, the air will feel different when you hit the auric boundary.

Now, light your smudge stick and fan the smoke around the person’s auric border moving in a clockwise direction.  Begin at their head and moving clockwise motion the smoke down and around their body.  Ask them to turn around and do the same thing to their back and sides.  Then begin to spiral inward, closer and closer toward the person’s physical body as the energy feels cleaner and lighter.  Once the aura feels cleared, focus on the chakras.  Starting at the root chakra, motion the sage smoke toward this energy center, standing at least a foot away from the person, move up to each chakra finishing at the crown chakra.

When these steps are completed, take a large feather (most metaphysical stores sell turkey feathers but any feather will do) and use the feather to move smoke down the body.  Then, beginning at the feet, motion the feather up and around your body.  This will fluff up and air out your aura ensuring that your energy is completely cleansed.

Depression feels like a blanket, a weight on the soul.  Anti-depressants, a healthy diet, exercise and therapy can help.  But this sage technique is also a great mood lifter.  Fill a small heat proof bowl with loose sage leaves and light them.  Allow the smoke to filter up and around you.  Spend these moments sending up prayers for happiness, health and protection.  Repeat, “I am ready and willing to release my sadness. I allow into my space only that which enlightens and uplifts me.”  Ask your angels and guides to take away your sadness and help you feel better, happier and ready to release this depression.  When the sage leaves are completely burned down, open the window wide and safely dispose of the sage ashes.

Sweetgrass – sometimes called Vanilla Grass – has a lighter, sweeter energy than sage.  It’s used to seal in the good energy and invite more happiness and positive energy into your life.  Grown in the Plains area of the United States (Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas), Sweet Grass is relatively inexpensive and easy to find.  After you’ve completed saging yourself, burn some sweet grass to lock in the good energy.

Our home is a reflection of us.  If our home is messy and chaotic, then inside we’re feeling messy and chaotic.  If our home needs lots of improvements, it symbolizes the improvements you still need to do on yourself.  If your home looks uninviting, then you’re telling the universe and all its gifts to stay away.  Often people have bushes and shrubbery growing past the windows.  Or they keep all their drapes and blinds closed – during the day!  Not only is this really bad Feng Shui, but think about what message you are sending.  “I don’t care about my house.  I don’t want you to see in or come in.  Stay away.”  To ensure positive energy in your home, keep it cleaned and organized.  Get rid of clutter and accumulations.  Do you really need that stamp collection?  Do you really think your kids will fight over your collection of Hummel figurines?  Do you really need 54 pictures of the family cluttering up your counter tops and shelves?  Probably not.

Invite the light in.  Open the blinds and drapes.  Curtains should be replaced every five years and washed at least once a year.  Clean your blinds of dust and open them to let the light in.  Before smudging your home, say a small prayer.  Invite your angels and guides to assist you.  Call on Arch Angel Michael to usher out any negative entities or energy.  Light your sage stick or loose sage leaves in a heat proof bowl.  Allow it to burn until a good, thick smoke emerges.  Fan the flames out with your feather so you’re left with just smoke.  You want to work with smoldering smoke, not fire.  If you’re having difficulty getting the smudge stick to burn, crush the end of the smudge stick to let air inside.  Once you’ve got a good smoke established, begin at your front door and proceed around each room in a clockwise direction. Motion the smoke around the windows and doors saying, “I seal this home in love and light.”  Fan the smoke into the corners and over the furniture saying, “I break up and dispel all negativity. Only peace, health, wealth, love, happiness and joy can abide here.”

Everything has energy.  Everything.  The energy of depression, anxiety, stress, arguments and harsh words lingers.  Since it’s lower level energy, it tends to hide in crevices and corners.  So make sure to motion the smoke into all your closets and storage spaces too.  Don’t forget to smudge bathrooms, the attic and the garage.

When you’re done saging, safely stamp out your sage stick.  Then open several windows allowing the negative energy to be ushered out.  Thank your guides and angels for their help.  Wait about an hour and then close the windows.  You can now burn sweetgrass to seal in the good energy.

Your work environment needs to be cleansed too, but chances are your boss won’t approve of you burning a sage stick.  So instead purchase or make your own sage spray.  Spritz your office daily with this spray to absorb negativity, stress and anxiety.

Make sure to sage before and after a guest visits your house. Sage after arguments too.  You should always sage when you move into a new home. Saging before meditation is a great idea too.  Sage yourself after an illness or being in a negative situation.

Timetraveling Writers

Edgar Allen Poe wrote about a murder – even identifying the victim’s name – 46 years before it happened.  Morgan Robertson described the Titanic over a decade before it was built.  Charles Dickens wrote a ghost story that later came true. In each of these stories, the authors wrote about events in specific details years before they happened.  Was Edgar Allen Poe a time traveler?  Could Charles Dickens have been psychic? How did Robinson know an iceberg would sink a great ship fourteen years before the Titanic was even conceived of? Did these authors have premonitions about the future? The answers to these questions still allude us, but the mysterious questions these tales leave behind remind us that we live in a truly supernatural world.

In 1837, Edgar Allen Poe wrote his first and only full length novel “The Narrative of Arthur Gorden Pym of Nantucket.” The gruesome story is about a young boy named Arthur Gorden Pym who stows away on a whaling ship in search of adventure.  One part of the novel tells how the ship sank and the crew had to survive off turtle meat. When that ran out, they pulled straws to see who would be killed and cannibalized so the rest of the crew could survive.  A young cabin boy named Richard Parker pulled the short straw and his short life ended.

Forty-six years later, a ship named the Mignonette left Southampton, England for Sydney, Australia.  The ship sank and the crew initially survived off turtle meat.  When that food ran out, the crew, starving and near death, decided to draw straws to see who would be killed and eaten so the remaining crew could live.  The young cabin boy pulled the short straw and was soon cannibalized and eaten.  His name?  Yes, you’ve guessed it. His name was Richard Parker.

Could this be a coincidence?  Two ships sinking and resorting to cannibalism could be coincidence. But two crews deciding to cannibalize one member and that one member having the same first and last name?  That’s a bit more than chance.  Did Edgar Allen Poe have a premonition of the event almost 50 years before it happened?

This is what seemingly happened to author Morgan Robertson when he wrote his book “Futility” in 1898.  The similarities between the great ship he describes and the Titanic are incredible to consider.  Morgan Robertson wrote a fictionalized account about a ship named “The Titan” which sank under almost identical circumstances to the Titanic – 14 years before it sank.  Both the fictional Titan and the very real Titanic were made of steel with three propellers and two masts.  Both departed from Southampton, England.  The fictional “Titan” and the real Titanic both carried 3,000 passengers.  The Titan weighed 46,328 tons and was 800 feet long. The Titanic weighed 45,000 tons and was 882 feet long.  Both were hailed as the largest passenger ship and were both called “unsinkable.” However, they also shared the same flaw – neither carried enough lifeboats.

Robertson’s “Titan” and the real Titanic were traveling the same speed when they struck an iceberg.  400 miles from Newfoundland.  Near Midnight.  In the month of April.  How could Robertson have known?  Did he have a dream about this event?  Was he a time traveler?  Or could he have time slipped and seen a vision of the future without meaning to?

Many believe something similar happened to Charles Dickens.  One of his stories was so close to the truth, he was sued for plagiarism.  In 1861, Dickens wrote a ghost story about a young painter on a train who meets a pale young lady.  She asks him if he could paint someone’s portrait from memory.  The artist says that he could.  The young woman replies, “Look at me again.  You may have to take a likeness of me.” The painter feels the encounter is a bit odd, but they soon part and he thinks nothing of it.  Two years later, a grieving father comes to his studio and asks him to paint a portrait of his deceased daughter based on his descriptions.  The artist agrees but after several failed attempts, he’s about to give up when he remembers the strange young woman on the train.  The artist quickly sketches her and the grieving father lights up explaining, “That is she!” As the artist paints the portrait he asks the father when the young woman died.  The father tells him she passed away two years ago on September 13 – the exact day the painter met the young lady on the train.

Shortly after the story was published, Dickens received an angry letter from a portrait artist who claimed the story had actually happened to him and was not a work of fiction. The artist had written down the entire story and was getting it ready for publication when he read Dicken’s story. The artist claimed Charles Dickens even stole the exact date of the incident – September 13. The artist said he’d told the story to several friends but had never told anyone the date.  This is what most troubled Dickens.  When he wrote the story, it had no date but his editor asked him to put one in to give the clichéd ending more validity.  Dickens hastily added in September 13th

Did Dickens unknowingly plagiarize this story through a psychic premonition? Or is it just another coincidence? Stories like these aren’t uncommon.  Olaf Stapledon wrote a story called “Last and First Man” in 1930 which describes Italy being overrun by a dictator named Mussolini who was defeated in war and later lynched by an angry mob.  It also describes a European Union being formed after the war and America and China becoming the two greatest super powers of the world.

Jules Verne described submarines and rocket ships before they were ever conceived of.  Tom Clancy wrote about a 9 – 11 attack in his 1994 novel “Debt of Honor.” Were they all able to see the future? Or were they just good guessers of what would soon come to pass?

Time is an invented concept.  If you imagine time as the Mississippi River, you’ll agree that the water beginning in Minnesota is not the same as the water that empties into the Gulf of Mexico, yet it is still a part of one river.  If we could rise above the river we’d see from our aerial view all of the Mississippi River. Perhaps the writers featured here were able to do this – to rise above the constraints of time and see the past, present and future as one.  Many writers have described going into a meditative, trance-like state when they write. Most authors have experienced a time slip phenomenon where they think they’ve written for an hour when they’ve really been at it for hours.  Or maybe, just maybe, some writers have learned how to glimpse the future.

Soul Groups, Soul Mates and Twin Flames

We’ve often heard the term “soul mate” bandied around, especially around Valentine’s Day.  But what does it really mean and do we each have a twin soul that is our better half?  To understand these concepts, let’s discuss the soul.  Our soul is timeless and separate from our physical self. Before we incarnate, our soul chooses the body, gender, geographical location and lessons it needs to grow and raise its vibrations of love.  The soul is the sum of all the memories, lifetimes, events and emotions it has experienced.  Before a soul incarnates, it chooses carefully the parents, siblings, friends, and partners it will need to balance karma and fulfill the soul’s unique purpose and life lessons.  Karma is simply cause and effect, action and reaction.  We come to this earth in an attempt to balance and heal karma we’ve created in past lives.  We choose our soul group to help us do this.

Our soul group is comprised of our family, friends, romantic partners and sometimes our bosses, co-workers and neighbors.  We’ve known the members of our soul group for lifetimes.  While on the other side, we make agreements to work with each other in order to help balance karma and teach lessons.  Sometimes, our greatest enemy is one of our soul group.  The world, like Shakespeare taught us, really is a stage.  Sometimes members of our soul group agree to play the role of villain so we can learn to overcome fear or become stronger or more independent.  It is no coincidence that you’ve befriended the people in your life. They are members of your soul group. You are here to help them and they are here to help you.  Sometimes these relationships last a short time and others can last a lifetime.

The Irish have an expression “Anam Cara” which means soul friend.  Have you ever met someone and just liked them instantly?  A soul friend is someone we feel at home with right away. A soul friend is like a cheerleader in your life.  They love you unconditionally and support your on your journey.  A soul friend will listen to you and bring you up.  They are happy for your successes and sad when you are sad.  In a true soul friend relationship there is no competition or jealousy.  You can trust a soul friend and confide in them with confidence.  Your soul friend will be with you through the ups and downs and even if you two have a disagreement, forgiveness comes easily.

In order to invite a soul friend into our lives, we have to first love and accept ourselves.  Be gentle with yourself and your path so that you can be ready for your Anam Cara.

When we hear the words “soul mates” we often think of romantic movies, destiny and happy ever after endings.  But a true soul mate does not often appear as the best person in our life.  We are drawn to soul mates because we have karma to heal with them.  If you feel passionately and instinctually drawn to someone, it may be because they are a soul mate.  This doesn’t mean they are meant to be with you forever.  It does mean that you are meant to learn from each other and then move on.  Soul mates usually come into our lives and shake things up so we can get back on path or fully implement a lesson we’ve been working on.  Many people will hold on to a soul mate thinking it’s their destiny when really soul mates are meant to come and then go in our lifetime.

A Twin Flame is often described as our better half, but in reality a Twin Flame is simply our perfect complement.  Usually we will incarnate without our Twin Flame as the goal is to learn and grow ourselves before rejoining our twin in perfect union.  Our Twin Flame will remain on the other side when we incarnate and act as a spirit guide.   This does not mean that we are half of a soul searching for someone to complete us. But we do have a male and female side and our goal is to fully implement these parts of ourselves into our earthly experience.  It is possible to meet your Twin Flame in this lifetime as more and more are choosing to incarnate together to help raise the consciousness of the planet.  But be prepared because when Twin Flames meet, the connection is intense often life changing.

Life isn’t meant to always be easy.  We are here to learn, grow, and help others to do the same.  This means that many of our relationships will be fraught with conflict and drama.  It’s important to focus on forgiveness and the lessons learned from these relationships. If we can also focus on learning to love ourselves and be kind to our souls, we will start to attract the love we want and deserve.  But it really does start with learning to love ourselves first. We have to stop criticizing ourselves and focusing on what’s wrong with our bodies, our bank account, our careers, relationships and choices.  If we remove shame, doubt and fear and replace it with acceptance, trust and love, we will attract the right soul mates and friends into our lives.  When we meet our soul friends, we can then grow in perfect love and harmony.

Seven Ways to Protect Yourself From Evil People

If you were drawn to this article, perhaps you’ve encountered an evil person.  We love to give them labels and excuses instead of calling them out for what they are – just plain evil. The evil person in your life might be a boss, a sibling, a spouse, a neighbor, a co-worker, or even your mom or dad.

How do you know if you’re dealing with someone who is truly evil?  Evil people will not accept responsibility for their actions.  They lack empathy and enjoy manipulating others.  They blame everyone for their failures.  They often have an exaggerated self image of themselves.  They pretend to be good and altruistic, but it’s all about appearances for them.  Evil people tend to be greedy and cheap with their money.  They are malignant narcissists who love to make everything about them. And lastly, evil people lie.

This last one might sound simplistic.  We’ve all told a lie here and there in our life.  Does that mean we are all evil?  Hardly.  But evil people build their lives around lying.  They lie to themselves and to others about everything.  M. Scott Peck wrote a fantastic book on the problem of evil called People of the Lie.  He named it that because he determined from his years as a psychiatrist studying evil people that the one thing they all had in common was a persistent need to lie.

The following highlights steps you can take to protect yourself from the evil person in your life.

  • Do Not Rely on Them

You can not rely on these people for anything.  They will use it as a way to gain power over you or to hurt you. Remember, when dealing with an evil person, everything is about them. They only consider people in terms of what others can do for them.

Evil people are incredibly concerned with appearances.  They want to appear to be good people.  They want others to envy them.  Therefore they will often live above their means.  They will brag about their life and inflate their success.  When they volunteer or give to charity, they practically shout it from the rooftops. If someone compliments them, they tell everyone about it.  Since they don’t understand the meaning of love, they will only associate with people who can do something for them or make them look good.

Since everything is always about them, evil people are greedy and cheap with their money.  If they do act generous – such as a large donation to charity or a big tip at a company dinner – it’s only to look good in front of others.  But at their heart, they don’t like parting with their money.

If you rely on them for anything, they will use this to manipulate you and strip you of self-control and personal strength.

  • Don’t Believe Their Lies.

Evil people lie.  It’s a simple fact.  They will say and do anything to get their own way.  They use lies to control, manipulate, inflate themselves and hurt you. If you have to deal with an evil person, it is this need to lie that can be most the most difficult to deal with.  An evil person who is caught red handed will lie about it and blame others with such conviction that you walk away feeling confused and unsure about everything.

They are masters at convincing others they aren’t the problem, that they aren’t wrong.  Therefore the most important way to begin dealing with the evil person in your life is to recognize them for what they are.  Take away all their excuses – their crappy childhood, their perceived lack of opportunity, their failures, their health issues, and on and on – strip that all away and see them for what they really are – just plain evil.  This realization will act like armor for you. It will protect you from accepting and buying into their lies.

  • Don’t Confront Them

Evil people tend to see others as evil and the source of their problems. They are not capable of seeing it in themselves.  This is why it’s fairly pointless to confront an evil person with the truth.  They will never see it, own it, validate it or apologize.  Instead, you will walk away from this confrontation feeling shaken, confused, disoriented and questioning your own sanity. Don’t try to convince an evil person they are wrong.  Don’t try to argue with them or point out to them how they’ve hurt you. It is a waste of your time and energy. Evil people will never, ever own up to their sins.

Evil people enjoy controlling others.  There’s the teacher who sets impossibly high standards and enjoys watching her students try – and fail – to meet them.  The church leader who uses misguided faith to control what everyone believes.  The parent who controls every aspect of their child’s life from the style of clothing and friends to afterschool activities and grades.  And if you waste your energy pointing this out to them, they will lie, deny and blame until you are left feeling as though everything is your fault. If you need validation that you’re dealing with an evil person, seek it through a trained therapist. You will never get the validation you deserve from the evil person.

  • Don’t Expect Them to Change

Evil people tend to enjoy being exactly as they are.  They don’t change.  It is a waste of your time to put your hopes, expectations and energy into the fantasy that they will change.  Put all that hope and change into you instead.  Evil people are mentally strong.  They submit only to their own will and their needs.  They tend to enjoy a fight and will not back down.  They also enjoy starting fights among others. Think of the evil boss who enjoys pitting co-workers against each other.  Or the malignant parent who manipulates siblings into competing for parental love and approval.  The evil coach who uses blame, humor and teasing to make a team member the scapegoat for a game loss.

Rather than hoping or expecting them to change, focus instead on yourself. It can be sad to let this dream go. In his groundbreaking book Fantasy BondsDr. Firestone writes, “Most people are afraid of leading separate, independent lives and cling to fantasies of love which offer the illusion and false promise of connection.”  You deserve better than relying on an old fantasy that he will change or she will suddenly wake up and become the loving person you know she’s capable of.  This is not going to happen.  Wake up out of your illusions and focus on you and your happiness.  Do not expect anyone else, least of all an evil person, to fulfill your needs.

  • Don’t Take Their Words and Actions Personally

We’ve already determined that evil people lie and manipulate to get what they want.  So why would you believe their words about you?  If they lie about everything, then everything they say to you is also a lie. In The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz explains, “Even when a situation seems so personal, even if others insult you directly, it has nothing to do with you. What they say, what they do, and the opinions they give are according to the agreements they have in their own minds. Taking things personally makes you easy prey for these predators, the black magicians. They can hook you easily with one little opinion and feed you whatever poison they want, and because you take it personally, you eat it up. But if you do not take it personally, you are immune in the middle of hell.”

The effects of living with an evil person can feel impossible to overcome. The husband who spends a lifetime downgrading his wife by telling her she’s ugly, lazy, or useless is a murderer of a different sort.  He has murdered her will, her courage, her belief in herself.  Evil people can break a person’s spirit without ever leaving a physical mark or scar as evidence.  But if you don’t take their actions and words personally, you will turn those scars into armor and shield yourself from any future abuse as you live a life of your personal joy.

  • Create Distance

Dr. Peck writes, “Evil is dangerous.  It will contaminate or destroy a person who remains too long in its presence.”

If possible, the best way to deal with an evil person is to not deal with them at all.  Distance yourself as best as you can from the evil person.  Don’t confide in them.  Don’t put your trust in them.  Never be vulnerable with them.  Set good, firm boundaries.  Don’t have any expectations of kindness or support.  Do not hope that they will change.  Instead, focus on yourself and making you as strong as you can be. You can still empathize with the evil person.  It’s got to be awful to live life the way they do – devoid of any love or compassion.  You can love them from afar and pray for them.  Try to recognize any positives from your encounters with them.  You’re stronger because of them.  You’re probably more independent because you’ve had to be. Evil people truly enjoy seeing others be miserable.  So if you have to deal with an evil person, the best thing to do is to ignore them.  Shine your light so brightly that their words, deeds, lies and manipulations bounce right off you and return to them.

  • Accept the Evil Person As They Are and Move On

We often think evil people are the ones who commit horrible crimes, but evil is often very ordinary.  Think of the evil woman who spends years telling her kids they are no good, they’ve ruined her life and that they’ll amount to nothing.  This woman might be beautiful.  Maybe she goes to church every Sunday and brings soup to sick friends and homemade bread to welcome new neighbors.  But she’s still evil and her broken children are the proof of that. M. Scott Peck writes in his book, “To come to terms with evil in one’s own parentage is perhaps the most difficult and painful psychological fact a human being can be called on to face.” Many grown children refuse to accept the fact that they were raised by an evil parent.  So instead they take on the blame for themselves and go through life apologizing for their own existence.

You are stronger than this.  Accept the evil person in your life as they are and leave it.  Spend the rest of your life focusing on you, not them – your healing, your strength, your joy.

It’s often said the greatest trick the devil ever pulled off was convincing us that he doesn’t exist.  The same holds true for evil people.

Khalil Gibran taught us that, “out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” It’s never easy encountering an evil person.  But always remember that you have the power to let people in – or out – of your life.

Recognize and validate for yourself the impact this person had on your life and then distance yourself from them and live a life of joy.  In the words of the singer Jewel, “No longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from. Fill your lives with love and bravery and you shall lead a life uncommon.”

The Six Most Common Dreams and What They Mean For You

When we sleep each night, our subconscious is let free to communicate with us.  Our dreams can be precognitive, healing, or inspiring. Sometimes, our dreams don’t make sense but hidden in every dream, even the silly ones, are golden nuggets of truth that when mined can reveal important often life changing information. Our dreams offer us deeper insights and solutions into our daily lives. Edison received many ideas for his inventions through his power naps.  Paul McCartney dreamt the melody for “Yesterday” and Stephanie Meyer dreamt the whole concept for her Twilightseries.  Our dreams allow our subconscious to communicate with us.  Our subconscious connects with us through pictures and symbols.  Most of the time, our dreams are unique and speak to what’s going in specifically in our lives.  But there are several common dreams that everyone seems to experience from time to time and these represent themes that are going in our lives. Throughout the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to get swept up in the busyness.  But when we sleep our mind is able to rest and reflect. It’s our inner self’s way of saying, “Hold on, something’s not right.  We need to look at this situation more closely.”  Let’s look at six common dreams and symbols we’ve all experienced and see what our dreams are trying to tell us.

  1. Falling Dreams

Have you ever dreamt that you’re falling down a flight of stairs?  Or have you woken up with the sensation of falling?  Falling Dreams are often trying to tell us that we’re worried about an aspect of our life falling apart or going downhill.  If you have a dream about falling, ask yourself, “Where do I feel as though I am failing in my life?” Are you worried about a relationship? Is your job putting a lot of pressure on you? Are you concerned about your finances?  A falling dream is your subconscious’ way of telling you that you need to deal head on with this situation.  Take some time to deal with fearful feelings of failure.  Tell yourself that you are doing the best you can and create a plan for future.

One of my clients named Susan kept having a dream where she fell down the stairs at work.  Sometimes she would be in the elevator at her job and the elevator would go into freefall.  Susan would wake each time in a panic.  She started to pay greater attention at work to some subtle clues.  The higher ups were working around the clock.  Many were speaking in hushed tones.  Susan asked for extra projects and began staying later at the office.  At the end of the month, her boss called her in for a private meeting.  The company was merging and they were going through a round of layoffs.  But everyone had noticed Susan’s diligence, team work ethic and willingness to work hard, so the boss wanted her to know that her job was secure.  Susan’s falling dream helped save her job.

  1. Losing Your Teeth

Dreaming about body parts represents the emotional and psychological aspects of the body part. So when we dream about our teeth falling out, it doesn’t foretell a root canal in our future.  Because we use our mouth to communicate – through words, a smile, a frown or a laugh – dreams about our teeth deal with communication. If you said something that you later regretted, you might have a dream that your teeth are falling out.  Did you participate in gossip?  Spread a rumor you didn’t know to be accurate?  The message of this dream is caution.  When a tooth falls out, we can’t just put it back in. The same goes for our words. There’s a saying that reminds us of this truth.  “Be careful of your words.  Once they are said, they can only be forgiven not forgotten.”

Sometimes this dream can point to a bigger pattern of behavior that needs to be addressed.  Tim had this dream almost his whole life.  He would dream that as he was talking to someone, all his teeth would just start falling out.  When he learned what the dream meant, he couldn’t think of any hurtful words he had said or a confidence he had broken.  But then he started to examine his conversations with his friends and realized he was a chronic over sharer.  He told people intimate details about his life, posted constantly on Facebook and Twitter and felt the need to express his opinion with everyone.  When Tim realized this, he started to learn how to set healthy boundaries.   As a result his relationships improved and he never had the dream again.

  1. Flying Dreams

These are fun and happy dreams.  They mean that you are “flying high” and feeling great.  You’re feeling confident and in charge of your dreams.  If you dream that you’re actually flying through the air, it can mean that you’re about to achieve a new goal or hear about an upcoming career success.  It can also signify that you’re accessing higher levels of consciousness through your spirituality.

My friend Bill kept dreaming that he was running over rooftops.  On the last one, he took a leap and began to fly.  As he soared through the sky, he felt happier and freer than he ever had in his life.  When he woke up, he asked himself, “Where do I need to take a leap of faith?” Instantly, he thought of the business he’d been dreaming of starting.  He took the dream as a positive sign and started his business which has remained an enormous success.

When I was a child I used to see ghosts all the time and it terrified me, so I asked God to make it stop. My prayers were answered until I hit my 30’s.  My intuition started opening again and I didn’t know what to do about it.  As a Christian, it went against what I was taught to believe.  I began to have a recurring dream that I was walking through a meadow and an angel would approach me.  Each time, she would nod to me and say, “Go ahead.  Give it a try.”  I would begin to flap my arms like and bird and soon I was flying.  In the dream I was always surprised and ecstatic.  My angel would fly along side me and say, “You’ve always been able to do this.  Don’t be afraid this time.  We’re always here for you.”  After that dream, I felt safe and confident enough to allow my intuition to open.  It changed my life and began a second chapter for me and a new career.  I walked away from teaching English at my local college and took a true leap of faith. I don’t think I would have done that without the confidence those flying dreams gave me.

  1. Being Chased

Unlike flying dreams, these dreams can be scary.  Usually in the dream, you’re being chased by an unknown presence.  It’s often night time which represents our subconscious. Sometimes you might see who’s chasing you and that can be significant too.  Dreams of being chased are your subconscious’ way of telling you that you’re running from something that you need to face.  If you’ve had this dream, ask yourself, “What am I trying to avoid?” Is there a situation at work you’re afraid to deal with? Are you avoiding the balance on your credit card? Is there a difficult conversation you need to have with a loved one?

My client Pat kept dreaming that her son was chasing her.  Pat had a close and loving relationship with her son, so these dreams disturbed her greatly.  Still, she knew the dreams were trying to tell her something about her son.  She began to pay greater attention to him and the subtle clues of communication that teenagers are so good at.  Pat also insisted that they spend more one-on-one time together.  As they began working out together and sitting down each night for dinner, she noticed that her son seemed sad and sullen.  How could she have missed the circles under his eyes?  When she pressed, she discovered that he’d been feeling depressed about his girlfriend who had broken up with him and he was failing math.  Pat hired him a math tutor and started to help his heart to heal.  The two became much closer as a result, but she wouldn’t have picked up on this if she hadn’t paid attention to the chasing dream.

When Barbara kept dreaming that she was being chased by an unknown presence, I urged to her to tell her subconscious that the next time she had the dream, she should turn around and face her pursuer.  She did this and the next time she had the dream, she ran around a corner, stopped and peaked around to see who was chasing her.  Barbara was shocked to see it was herself! I asked her if there was something in her life she was afraid to face.  Barbara began to cry and said she was battling her old addiction to bulimia which she thought she’d dealt with in college.  She went to a therapist trained in eating disorders and got the help she needed.  The chasing dreams ended.

  1. Back to School

We’ve all this dream and it usually causes us to wake with a panic of anxiety.  It leaves us with visions of those cinder block hallways and cafeteria smells still lingering in our bedroom.  Sometimes in these dreams, you’re back in school only to realize that you’ve missed the final exam and will be failing the class.  This can be a sign that your job is causing too much stress and you’re afraid of failing at work or losing your job.  If you dream that you’re lost in school or can’t find your locker, ask yourself, “Where do I feel lost in my life?” If you dream that a teacher is yelling at you, take a good look at your boss and co-workers. Is someone scolding you during your waking life?

These panicky dreams are almost always about work stress but they can point to stress in your personal life too.  When Ginny was planning her wedding, she kept dreaming that she was back in high school and her science teacher was yelling at her that she was doing everything wrong. The dream usually ended with her causing an explosion in the lab.  But everything was going great at her job.  I asked her if there was anyone in her life who made her feel like she was being scolded or doing everything wrong.  “Yes,” she said quickly. “My future mother-in-law.  She wants to plan the whole wedding.’  Ginny finally found the courage to talk to her about the stress being put on her around the wedding.  The mother-in-law backed off a bit, Ginny’s subconscious was happy that she finally spoke her truth and the dreams stopped.

  1. The Cheating Dream

If you’ve dreamt that your partner is cheating on you, don’t hire a private investigator just yet. This dream is most often your subconscious’ way of telling you that you are feeling cheated in your relationship.  Is your partner spending more time at work lately? Are you a golf widow on the weekends?  Is your partner refusing to discuss making a commitment? The cheating dream is trying to tell you that you are feeling cheated in life.  It’s time to state your needs, communicate effectively and make sure your needs are heard.

When Stephanie was pregnant with her second child, she repeatedly dreamed that her husband was cheating on her.  In the dream, she would discover him with another woman and he would shake it off saying, “So? What’s the big deal?” After doing some digging, Stephanie realized that with the second pregnancy she felt as though her husband wasn’t treating this pregnancy like it was a big deal.  She expressed her needs and her husband planned a weekend getaway for them.

Sometimes in these dreams, you’re the one doing the cheating.  These dreams are trying to tell you that you’re not giving your all to someone or something.  You might be skimping on your time spent with the family or trying to leave work early. Often the reason can be even more complicated.  Bob kept dreaming that he was cheating on his girlfriend.  The dream really bothered him because it was something he would never do in his real life.  When he asked himself, “Where am I cheating my girlfriend?” he realized that he had yet to tell her that he was considering taking a job on the West Coast.  Bob felt bad that he was keeping this secret from her, but he wasn’t ready to deal with the implications for their relationship if he moved.  Finally, he spoke to his girlfriend and the cheating dreams stopped.

When analyzing your own dreams, it’s important to mine the singular message of the dream.  Each morning upon waking, take a moment before you jump out of bed to recall your dreams.  Write down what you can remember.  It also helps to discuss your dream with a friend because often they can see it from a different angle.  Dreams are symbolic.  Don’t necessarily run to a dream dictionary.  Think about what the dream symbolizes to you.  Snakes often symbolize rebirth and renewal, for example, but if you’re terrified of snakes then for you they would symbolize something to be feared.  Dreaming of a house represents aspects of ourselves with the basement and the attic standing in for our subconscious.  If you dream of a messy, cluttered house it can indicate that you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.  A very common house dream is discovering a whole new part of the house you didn’t know existed.  This dream is trying to tell you that you’re still searching for more.  You haven’t found the fulfillment you’re seeking.

Carl Jung believed that each person in our dream represents a different aspect of our personality. If you dream that your mom is making you dinner, it might mean you’re seeking some mothering and nurturing energy. If you dream that your boss is yelling at a co-worker, it can represent an aspect of yourself that is demeaning your work.  Pay attention to your inner thoughts and become aware of negative self-talk.

The more you work with dreams and the subtle language of your subconscious, the more in tune you’ll become with your life purpose. Working with dream analysis will help you get in touch with your true self so you can live a life more fully aware.
